Event + Response = Outcome

No matter where you go or what you do, remember that it is not the events inlife that determine your outcomes, it is how you RESPOND to those events.

There is a difference between responding and reacting.

Responding is thinking before acting, It means you evaluate each event as it is occurring and make some decisions about what you want to see happen – how you would like this to turn out. See it in your mind and ask yourself how you can respond in a way that will bring you closer to your desired outcome.

You can use this decision making process for just about every situation: with the difficult customer, during a tough sales meeting, when disciplining your children, when stuck in traffic behind a 200 year old, 4 ft tall driver who can’t see over the steering wheel… No matter what, E+R=O.

Never forget it. If you forget everything else that you learned today, don’t forget this. E+R=O. It’s not what happens to you – it is how you respond to what happens to you that ultimately determines your outcomes.
